Visit the author's site and download the latest version (1.5.1 as of this writing) if you do not have it. You can use either version: standalone or the Windows installer version. I would suggest using the installer version which will facilitate frequent backups on the same system.
The standalone version is excellent for use from a USB stick which can be used to backup the user's information from one computer and import it onto the next.
Backing up Mozilla Firefox is straight-forward. Most users will simply keep hitting
Next throughout the process.
Next from the welcome screen, you will be presented with the software selection menu.
Select the software you would like to backup,
Firefox in this case.
The version number will likely be different than the one shown. The version number usually does not matter.
Caution! Please keep in mind that anyone who has access to the backup file will be able to completely restore your information wherever they desire thereby having full access to your accounts and saved information such as passwords for web sites. To protect yourself enter a password at the password prompt!
The default selections will typically ensure that a restore from the backup will function identically the same as the current setup.
In the event of a bad or corrupt Extension you may want to exclude Extensions from the Backup. In fact, it might be best to create one backup containing everything and a separate backup with only the bare essentials to actually restore from. This way you will have it all in case it is needed.
Caution!!! Mozbackup may warn you of unknown files. These are typically left over from Malware removal or Extensions which left content behind. Read through the list. As mentioned previously, you may want to create one backup with everything and then create a backup with all of the check boxes turned off in the warning message.
The backup process will take from a few seconds to a several minutes based on the amount of information to be placed in the backup.
Upon completion a report will be presented which summarizes the items backed up.
